  Parts of a controversial immigration law in the US state of Arizona which faced accusations of racism have been blocked by a federal judge. The new legislation had been designed to make illegal immigration a crime and penalize anyone helping undocumented workers, but judge Susan Bolton dropped the crime part and a requirement for immigrants to carry papers at all times. The state's government has vowed to appeal the changes.

  ey parts of Arizona's controversial immigration law have been been blocked by Susan Bolton, a US judge, who said: "There is a substantial likelihood that officers will wrongfully arrest legal residents" - and that Arizona had no right to enforce federal immigration rules. To its supporters, the law is needed to stop the flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico overrunning Arizona, and fueling rising crime rates. To its opponents, including the Obama administration, it would lead to wrongful arrests and ethnic profiling. Already, some migrants have been driven out of the US and into Mexico - a country that many do not really know. Al Jazeera's Mariana Sanchez reports from the Mexican border city of Nogales.

Thomas Saenz, president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, says Arizona's immigration law signed by the governor is extraordinarily vulnerable to a legal challenge,"The law requires police to check immigration status if they have a reasonable suspicion that someone is undocumented, and makes it a state crime to be an undocumented immigrant. The supreme court will review a free speech dispute over a law in California banning the sale of violent video games to children. The Justices' accepted California's appeal and will decide if the law is too restrictive. Companies that make video games think it is. According to the Salt Lake Tribune a Utah prison inmate is now scheduled to face a firing squad in June for murdering an attorney during a botched 1985 escape from a Salt Lake City courthouse. Ronnie Lee Gardner, was found guilty of shooting attorney Michael Burdell to death during the escape attempt and sentenced to death. Gardner has technically run out of appeals but His lawyer plans to appeal to the Utah Supreme Court and may also seek a reduced life prison term from the state Board of Pardons and Parole.
