KUALA LUMPUR – Police last week acted quickly to forestall a serious threat to national security when they nabbed 10 terror suspects with links to international terrorist organizations. Al-Qaeda blamed for attack on Yemen...Yemeni officials have blamed al-Qaeda for an attack on intelligence and police headquarters in the city of Aden, which killed 11 people, including three women and a child. Witnesses say the attackers stormed a detention facility and freed a number of prisoners. Al Jazeera's Mohamed Vall reports. (June 20, 2010)
Sahara states counter al-Qaeda thre...Algeria, Mali, Niger and Mauritania are setting up a joint command heaquarters in southern Algeria to counter a growing al-Qaeda threat in the Sahara Desert region. The Algerian defence ministry announced on Wednesday the command headquarters will be based in the southern Algerian town of Tamanrasset. It comes after a recent meeting of senior officials from seven countries in the region who discussed ways to combat rising violence by the fighters in the Sahara. It has been said that Al Qaeda uses the vast open desert to its advantage. Al Jazeera's Clayton Swisher reports.
